Quamie Walkes was born in Georgetown, Guyana in 1976. He immigrated to the Bronx, New York in 1988, graduated from Taft High School, and enrolled at Brooklyn College in 1997 — the same semester his first child was born. When everyone around him said the odds were against him, he joined the United States Coast Guard instead of accepting them.
Walkes served 21 years as a Coast Guard Maritime Enforcement Specialist, retiring as a Chief in 2019. During his service he earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice and deployed across maritime safety, search and rescue, and law enforcement operations.
After retiring, Walkes moved his mother — diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia — from the Bronx to Cypress, Texas to care for her directly. He watched her struggle to find her phone, navigate a tablet, and respond to check-in prompts that assumed she was already capable of engaging with technology. She wasn’t, on many days. And nobody knew. That gap became MotiBeam. The idea was simple: what if the help came to her? What if the wall could ask how she was feeling, remind her to take her medication, and alert her family if she didn’t respond — without her ever having to pick up a device? Every product decision at MotiBeam traces back to that question.
Today MotiBeam Technologies LLC holds 17 active USPTO patent applications covering an ambient spatial computing platform that transforms ordinary surfaces into interactive, voice-controlled projection interfaces. The company is SDVOSB certified, active on SAM.gov, and in active conversations with VA healthcare programs for pilot deployment. Walkes is the sole inventor on all 17 applications. He manages the company from Cypress, Texas, where he continues to care for his mother and his family.
